Instant translation used by nurses, doctors and consultants at times of emergency

One key application of Palaver is to aid communication at times of emergency.
As we begin to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, people have started travelling again. Approximately 26.7 million people will be travelling from overseas to the UK in 2022. Despite English being considered the ‘lingua franca’, those visiting the UK often do not speak English fluently or rely on a member of their party to help them communicate. In times of emergency, fluent communication, however, is needed in order to provide sufficient help to those suffering.
Palaver’s voice translation feature has been used to communicate in a crisis.
Nurses in a London hospital were struggling to understand an Arabic patient who was in extreme discomfort and was trying to converse. Without any Arabic-fluent staff within the ward, Palaver’s on-demand translation features helped the nurses question the patient on his health issues, and by toggling the to/from language they could clearly understand the pain symptoms experienced by the patient. With both parties using the app, the conversation between them became fluent.
As a result, the patient was reassured that he was going to be receiving the medical help he needed.
